Base Size Guide for Woven Wrap Baby Carriers

Consider that the range of base sizes is 4 through 9. You and your little one's base size is the size in which you feel comfortable tying a double knot behind your back in FRONT WRAP CROSS CARRY (FWCC) a way of wearing the child on your front.

<3 (heart) Step one: Be proud that your awesome body cares for and carries a baby/toddler.
📍(location symbol) - if possible, find a local baby wearing group or boutique where you can try on woven wraps.
(star): Not everyone has a local group. No problem. just a few questions will help locate your base size.

FIRST GUESS: size 5 fits a petite wearer in FWCC, 4 if very petite
size 6 works for FWCC for people who wear small through large shirts, approximately
size 7 allows many XL wearers to FWCC
sizes 8-9 work for FWCC for a plus-sized person

THE RANGE IS 4-9. WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU FALL? HOLD ON TO THAT NUMBER AS A STARTING POINT.

FINE TUNING: If you are large chested, wearing while pregnant, or if you feel you are in-between sizes, size up one.
If your little one is a big toddler, size up one again!
You might very well have two base sizes, one for a baby and one for a toddler. You can still use the same wrap for each child (with different carries).

💡(light bulb) Some people recommend base as a starting size, especially for a newborn and/or people familiar with stretchy wraps (which are about a size 8 and are tied similarly to FWCC). A lovely start! However:
BASE IS A POINT OF REFERENCE, NOT A PRESCRIPTION FOR WHAT YOU "SHOULD" BUY.
Woven wraps change by 1/2 meter per size. You can wear in ANY size woven, but knowing what size that wrap is relative to your base helps you know which carries you can accomplish with it.

BASE MATH : what is the relationship, plus or minus, between YOUR WRAP SIZE AND YOUR BASE SIZE

For example: a base 7 baby wearer picks up a size 4, and with that base -3 wrap they can do many carries! Simply look up "base -3 carries in a woven wrap" and follow a tutorial. WearingWiki.com is a great place to wort options by +/- base size.
Base -1 or -2 woven reach around to tie in back for front wrap cross carry. That's ok! You can do the SAME carry and tie under baby's bum. So even when your child grows, your wrap still works without learning anything new! (illustration of a woman with dark hair and an infant on her chest in a Front Wrap Cross Carry tied under bum)
Base -3 or -4 woven are made of much less fabric and its just as easy to learn to use them as it is with a longer wrap. A traditional sling carry in a "shorty" wrap such as base-4 uses a knot at the shoulder and thats it! (illustration of a dad with dark hair and an infant on his chest in a TSC)

<3 (heart) You can use ANY size woven wrap!! <3 (heart)
